The Land We’re On

The National Stiltwalkers of Canada (NSC) acknowledges that we’re located on Indigenous land and Treaty 6, 7 and 8 Territory in ᒥᐢᑿᒌᐚᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ, Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton). In order of Treaty, Amiskwacîwâskahikan is the traditional gathering place of the Nêhiyawak (Cree), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), Dene, Nakota Sioux and Métis; Blackfoot Confederacy: Kinai, Piikani and Siksika as well as Tsuu T’ina First Nations and Stoney Nakoda First Nations; Nêhiyawak (Cree), Dene and Métis respectively.

We acknowledge that we’re also the beneficiaries of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship signed in 1876 with the Indigenous peoples of Treaty 6 Territory: the Nêhiyawak (Cree), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), Dene, Nakota Sioux and Métis.

The histories, languages and cultures of the Indigenous peoples of Amiskwacîwâskahikan are important. In this land, we are friends, neighbours, and committed allies. We are committed to creating spaces for our Indigenous neighbours that are welcoming and safe. We will operate in accordance with the Four Roles & Seven Commitments discussed in the Indigenous Framework.
